Chamber, DWS launch customer service course

The Duchesne Area Chamber of Commerce is taking the lead on a new customer service program initiated by the state Department of Workforce Services in the Uintah Basin.

The program — “Company's Coming, Are You Ready?” — is being launched in part because of the increase in tourism that is anticipated when the Dinosaur National Monument visitor center and quarry re-open in October, said Duchesne Chamber Director Irene Hansen.

The famous quarry building and visitor center were closed several years ago because of structural problems that had plagued them since their construction in 1957. However, the monument received $13.1 million in federal stimulus money to rebuild the structures.

“It’s estimated that 250,000 new customers will be coming to the area over the next 18 months just because of the quarry opening,” she added. “It’s being advertised worldwide by organizations like the Utah Office of Tourism.”
